I was told about the scheme at my secondary school in Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire and the Service and Expedition sections were completed through Girlguiding UK, an organisation I’m still a part of today. Memories of the expedition include heating up “Cup a Soups” after a day of hiking, making collective efforts to read our map and walking through the White Cow Woods near Fraserburgh in pleasing sunshine, and not caring about the midgie bites! The Service section has enabled me to progress from a Girl Guide helping at her local Rainbows, to volunteering as a Rainbow unit leader, now observing the next generation of DofE participants completing their Service sections. It is a true privilege to have been part of this scheme as a participant and assisting participants today.
