Visiting Buckingham Palace and being in awe in the Welsh Room. Just a few of us there for our gold awards. Along came Prince Phillip and he made us feel very welcome. Then came and spoke to my teacher Mr Stuart Harrison ..... who until then I didn't realise played cricket for Glamorgan( I think). He spent time talking to him about cricket and then me as well. Such an honour for a young person coming from South Wales.
To get to do the award there were a whole load of boys in the school and two of us girls. We could not do it until we brought in a letter to school from our parents. I did this and managed to get bronze, then a smaller group of us silver until finally only I remained from the initial group. I never worried about being a woman just mad sure I have been a role model including waiting until there was a new subject called Craft, Design and Technology and applied to be a teacher. This I have done and in every school I worked I was the first female tech teacher.
It was an honour to meet the lovely man and remains one of my greatest memories.
Thank you Duke of Edinburgh and condolences to your family.
