For my GOLD adventure I spent a month climbing in the Himalaya's.... fantastic in itself, but it was also the time of political unrest and on our return to Delhi we were caught up in the unease preceding Mrs Gandhi's assassination.
This thirst for adventure, which began in the Girl Guides, turned into camouflage and a 24 year military career, with active duty in Iraq and being the first female soldier to stand guard armed outside a residence, finishing as a Training Officer with the ACF where for each cadet's 14th Birthday we bought them their bronze package - no excuse not to start the fantastic journey of DofE.
Now I am running a community swimming pool and this weekend signed up our first cohort of Bronze, Silver and Gold participants as a new Duke of Edinburgh Award centre.... as a Platinum award holder I cant think of a better way of honouring the memory of HRH Prince Philip than for young people being given the chance to make the most of themselves and an opportunity to challenge themselves through the award scheme... and who knows where it might lead....
