Participating in the bronze, silver and part of the gold DofE award between 2005-2009 brings back fond memories of gaining independence and a sense of achievement. My story includes volunteering at a local care home during dinner time, volunteering at a charity shop on a Saturday, and learning extra academic and physical skills such a yoga and driving. The expeditions were located in the Lake District and Mull and were full of adventure, perseverance and team work. My friends and I still laugh about our memories camping, navigating maps and campsite cooking. I would encourage any young person to participate in the award which will gain them confidence and valuable life skills and well as friendship.
