Some great memories of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. As well as a memorable day at St James’s Palace when I received my Gold Award in 1983, was receiving my Bronze Award. On that day a group of us were assembled next to a Fire engine away from the main gallery, at the Oval on the Wirral. The Duke of Edinburgh arrived via helicopter and rather than walking over to the main gallery, he came straight over to ask why we were standing alone next to a Fire engine. We explained it was part of our service and he congratulated us before walking over to the main gallery to proceed with the recognition of new award holders!
RIP The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
