Penny Lang (Brake)

I was awarded my Gold Award back in the late 70's and met HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in the beautiful green room at Buckingham Palace in the days when the palace was not open to the public. My Mum, a keen royalist who camped outside to watch the wedding of the Queen and Prince Phillip, and I were very excited to go inside. My late father set up a Charitable Trust and was a very keen supporter of the DofE award as he felt strongly about young people challenging themselves, finding interests in life and also helping others. Many of his 17 grandchildren have gained the award. I accompanied my eldest, Oliver to St James's Palace where I was lightheartedly reprimanded by the Prince for not wearing my gold badge! The William Brake Foundation is delighted to be able to continue to support such a worthy organisation set up by HRH.
