I helped as a volunteer for the DofE for over 10 years at the school I work at as a teacher. My first memory is of a trip to Brecon Becons. My first experience of the DofE. I went as a helper and ended up doing the expedition myself due to a student falling unwell and the group needing another person to complete the walk. I did not have the correct equipment but completed the walk through the heights of the Brecon Becons. My fear of heights not stopping me. I was freezing but a great experience. Other memories include sleeping in minibuses and small shed like buildings on expeditions. And more importantly the camorardarie and sense of achievement obtained by the young people completing the award. Seeing the students achieve personal goals in the DofE also helped with their achievements in the classroom.
