At the DofE, we’ve been supporting young people for nearly 70 years. We want every young person across the UK to get the chance to do their DofE and build the skills and confidence they need to succeed at work, discover their passions, and achieve their ambitions.

However, many young people face challenges accessing the DofE due to financial constraints or cultural barriers, because it’s not available in their area, or because they need specialised support to take part. We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to build essential skills for life and work. • The DofE is available in over 80% of state schools; we’re embedded in communities in every corner of the UK.
• 500,000 young people are currently doing their DofE and almost seven million have achieved an Award.
• 1 in 4 young people living in poverty have never participated in an extracurricular activity, missing out on benefits and experiences that could significantly enhance their employability. DofE is working to remove financial barriers to ensure they don’t miss out.
• 40% of young people feel unprepared to take the next steps after education; DofE is there to help bridge the gap between education and employment
• 50% of employers struggle to hire young people with adequate transferable skills; DofE enables young people to develop skills such as leadership, teamwork, and emotional resilience
• 1 in 5 young people suffer from a mental health condition, highlighting the need for supportive programmes like the DofE
