Jack Kitcher

Volunteering I did work in the Newport Library on the Isle of Wight for one year.

Physical I did sessions in the Isle of Wight college Gym for six months.

Skills I did sessions on Employability skills at The Isle of Wight college.

Residential I did a trip in a very small canal boat for 5 days with four other students from the Isle of Wight college with my D of E leader from the Isle of Wight college and a member of staff from St Catherine’s school.

Expedition I did two Expeditions in the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. I did the practice Expedition in May 2019 with a student from St Catherine’s school and students from the Isle of Wight college who I haven't met before planning it. I walked all the way up to Pen Y Fan on the 2nd day. I camped out for 4 days and walked for 3 days. I did the Final Expedition in July 2019 with a student from St Catherine’s school, two students from the Isle of Wight college and two students from Portsmouth college. I only met the students from Portsmouth college in a service station in South Wales. I camped out for 5 days and walked for 4 days.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has given me confidence to do things. That I never thought was possible and that I could ever do. Every time after receiving my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award certificate at the end of summer term assembly in 2015, the start of the Final Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition and when I was back at the school houses at St Catherine’s school I aways said. That I wouldn't do the next level of the Duke of Edinburgh Award again. Now I have completed all three levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

It has helped me face new challenges, to build and form new friendships.

It has been my greatest achievement ever. It most certainly is something worth doing and for lots of future generations of young people to do. Prince Phillip would be very proud to see this happening and to see lots of future generations of young people going on to
