The DofE has helped shaped me and my life since I started my Gold award at 16. I was nervous as I had no previous outdoor experiences and was quite a shy person, but the friendships, adventures and experiences that I have gained made my initial nerves all the worth-while. My DofE did not just stop at Gold, I have taken up every opportunity that has come with completing my Gold and this included becoming a young leader (now a DofE Leader) and not only that I now am a Director at my local centre and am in charge of coordinating participants. Furthermore, I have used my DofE story to inspire young people across Wales to take up the award as part of my role as a Regional youth ambassador for Wales . I have also had the pleasure of being chosen as a delegate for the DofE International Award at the Global Youth Summit 2021 and have subsequently become a local solutions member for the Global Youth Mobilisation Health , Well-being and gender equity panel. The opportunities that have arisen from completing my Gold DofE have been endless and I am forever in debt to the amazing working carried out by the charity.
