My memories of my Duke of Edinburgh award journey are many but two which stand out were when I took on an allotment for a season and grew vegetables which I donated to my local homeless shelter and when I trained and qualified as a Football Association referee and continued to officiate matches for a number of seasons.
Both required the learning of new skills, both helped others as well as helping me to gain my Duke of Edinburgh award and both gave me attributes to use throughout my life that I would not have gained if it were nor for my participation in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.
