This General Internal Medicine programme is designed to provide you with real experience in a clinical environment, under the guidance of expert doctors. You will gain valuable hands-on experience covering the complexities of medical care, learning rare skills such as cardiovascular & respiratory OSCE examinations, abdominal ultrasound and biopsies.
• Master the art of medical history taking and communicating with patients.
• Learn to assess cardiovascular health using auscultation.
• Practice OSCE style cardiovascular examinations, taking manual blood pressures and producing ECG traces.
• Conduct full OSCE style respiratory examinations, utilise spirometry, peak flow assessment and chest X-Rays for disease diagnosis.
• Explore abdominal anatomy via ultrasound scanning.
• Understand and employ the NEWS System.
• Delve into the fundamentals of cancer care and practice ultrasound guided biopsies.
This programme is taught with a low student-to-tutor ratio, you will likely meet several different doctors during your time with us. We allow you to spend as much time as necessary to practice techniques until you are confident. The General Internal Medicine programme is designed for students aged 16-19 hoping to study healthcare related subjects such Medicine, Paramedicine, Nursing and Biomedical Science at university. Your experience acts as a great point of reference during university application and interview processes.
