Oyster Worldwide – Care for and rehabilitate Baboons in South Africa

Look after orphaned baby baboons and older primates at our rehabilitation centre in South Africa. The centre is currently home to over 400 primates, all of which are destined to be returned to the wild. This inspiring rehabilitation programme is open to hardworking and passionate volunteers.

When?
You can volunteer for 2 – 12 weeks throughout the year.

What’s it all about?
Volunteer in rural South Africa, helping to nurture and protect orphaned and injured baboons. The primates will eventually be released back to the wild, and you will play a key role in this amazing journey. Tasks include food preparation, feeding, cleaning and much more.

Accommodation
Live at the heart of the monkey rehabilitation centre in purpose-built volunteer cabins. You will be sharing a room with up to 2 other volunteers. There are shared toilet and shower facilities – with an open top shower for the real bush experience.

Food
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided daily, and all food is vegetarian. Volunteers can purchase separate meat from town if they wish. Breakfast often includes cereal, toast and other continental breakfast items. Lunch and dinner is home cooked by long-term volunteers and you can expect all the staple western foods such as rice, pasta, vegetables and other BBQ items. Dietary requirements can be catered for.

Free Time
This project exists with the help of hard-working volunteers. This means that there is one scheduled day off in 7 as the monkeys need feeding and caring for each day. There are opportunities to do sightseeing and excursions. The project is located in close proximity to the Kruger National Park, and we can arrange an exciting two-night, one day safari to round off your residential.

Project requirements
The summer is very popular, so you are encouraged to book early to guarantee your space.

How much does it cost?
