The DofE is delighted to announce its new Chair of Trustees: Baroness Grey-Thompson DBE.
Baroness Grey-Thompson, known as Tanni Grey-Thompson, has been a Trustee of the DofE in the UK for five years, helping to guide and govern the charity through a significant period of growth. In her new role, Tanni will lead the Trustee team and support the DofE’s Chief Executive, Ruth Marvel. Tanni takes over from The Lord Kirkham CVO, who held the Chair of Trustees position for 10 years.
Tanni says: “I’m passionate about everything the DofE stands for and honoured to be its Chair of Trustees. Getting young people active, giving them goals and purpose and enabling them to develop their confidence and resilience is hugely important. Through their DofE young people do all of this and more.
“Over the last five years, I’ve seen the DofE grow from strength to strength under Lord Kirkham’s leadership. I’m determined to build on that success and shape the next exciting chapter for the charity: safeguarding it through the coronavirus pandemic; increasing accessibility for all young people; and shouting about the amazing things young people achieve through their DofE every day.”
Ruth says: “We thank Lord Kirkham for his incredible contribution to the DofE and are immensely proud to have Tanni on board as our new Chair of Trustees. Despite the challenges we, like every other charity, face due to the pandemic, this is an exciting time in the DofE’s history, and, with Tanni, we will build on its strong foundations.
“The DofE is more important than ever. It has an essential role to play in transforming the prospects of our so-called COVID generation; enabling young people to develop the skills, adaptability and grit they will need to manage the uncertainty ahead.”
Lord Kirkham commented “My past decade as Chair of the Trustees and my long, previous Duke of Edinburgh’s Award association has been positively eventful and immensely fulfilling. I am so proud of the many great accomplishments achieved by a phenomenal DofE Team. Not least the growth in our reach allowing even more young people the chance to attain the much-respected Award and its valuable life experiences. With Tanni in the Chair we are in safe, sure, incredibly able and caring hands – an absolute guarantee of continuing positive progress.”
