Applications for the UK Youth Ambassadors 2025–26 programme will open at 10am on 1 April. Applications will remain open until 5pm on 30 April.

UK Youth Ambassadors are advocates for the DofE charity and want to inspire others. They are enthusiastic about sharing their stories and ensuring youth voices are heard. They’re collaborators, looking to work with other like-minded people from across the UK.

They are both positive and solution-focused, with an interest in tackling issues which are affecting society, and are determined to make a positive, lasting change, both within the DofE and in the wider world.

During the programme you will:

  • Boost your knowledge and skills during our monthly online skills building workshops. Conducted by industry experts, these sessions explore a variety of valuable topics designed to enhance your growth as a Youth Ambassador and help you achieve your career aspirations. Previously Youth Ambassadors have heard from inspirational speakers, had public speaking and media training, and taken part in a mental health first aid course.
  • Join an incredible community of like-minded individuals aged 16 to 24 from all over the UK. Working together as a team, you will help shape the future of the DofE Award, whilst inspiring others to embark on their own DofE journey.
  • Access to our 12-month programme with dedicated staff to support your development in the role, who will ensure you have the best experience possible. You will also receive free branded uniform to wear during events and a free 16-25 railcard. We can also act as your Assessor if you choose to use the role to count towards the Volunteering section of your Award.

UK Youth Ambassadors contribute to the charity in the following areas:

Events

As a DofE Youth Ambassador you will take part in exciting, high-profile events, both in-person and online. Throughout the programme you’ll also have the opportunity to share your DofE story and network with Award holders and supporters at events taking place regionally, UK wide and internationally.

You will be invited to support teams from across the DofE charity ranging from Fundraising to External Affairs. This is a great way to inspire others to take part in the DofE programme and demonstrate the positive impact doing the DofE can have on the lives of young people.

Focus groups

Join essential conversations happening at the heart of the DofE. Through these valued discussions, you can share your ideas and feedback, to influence key decisions across the charity. Recently, Youth Ambassadors have been able to shape changes to the Residential section and have taken part in discussions about the Award globally, hosted by the International Award Foundation.

UK Youth Ambassaqdors are gathered around a rustic wooden table in a well-lit indoor space with large windows and blue-framed doors. One woman, wearing a black shirt and beige pants, is speaking and gesturing with her hand while others listen attentively. The table is covered with papers, sticky notes, pens, notebooks, water bottles, and small pink candles. A banner in the background displays the hashtag '#WORLD READY' along with icons and an image of a person in a field. The participants are dressed in casual and semi-formal attire, engaged in discussion.

Advocacy

Join our advocacy efforts as a charity and become the voice of your generation. This is a fantastic opportunity to express your views to policymakers, ensuring the perspectives of young people are considered when it comes to decisions which impact your future.

Content creation

Youth Ambassadors regularly feature on DofE’s social media channels and website. From writing blogs to co-creating videos, content creation is a key part of the role. In the past Youth Ambassadors have raised awareness of the Skills section of the Award by filming a video for World Youth Skills Day and several were spotlighted in the DofE’s People like YOUth film series. dofe_testimonial_quoteThe highlight of the year for me was co-hosting the Youth Without Limits Live: Beyond the CV event in front more than 200 young people; moments like that are helping me to become a more outgoing person, and I owe a lot of that to the DofE!

dofe_testimonial_quoteThe Youth Ambassadors have made me feel part of a team, and to feel encouragement and supportiveness that I have not felt before. Having adults ask your opinions and feeling listened to has given me more confidence to speak out. Most of all, I enjoy putting on my polo shirt and feel proud! Proud for not only finishing my own DofE Awards, but for encouraging others to join in too.

dofe_testimonial_quoteThis role has sincerely been the best opportunity that I've taken. I've done so much networking and made so many new friends that I know will set me up for life. It has been an unforgettable experience.

dofe_testimonial_quoteOne of my highlights was going to the Netherlands for an International Award conference. We got to meet people from all over Europe and share our different experiences of DofE! I got to lead a workshop on the UK Youth Ambassador programme, which was a great chance to practice public speaking and deliver a presentation.

dofe_testimonial_quoteI attended the first ever UK Youth Ambassadors and International Award Emerging Leaders engagement event in London. We took part in a Race Across the City team-building challenge and heard from an organisation called Kids Against Plastic. The workshop made me think more about what I can do in my community. I learnt that DofE is much bigger than just the UK and plays an important role across the world.

dofe_testimonial_quoteBeing a UK Youth Ambassador has given me a different perspective on how DofE works behind the scenes and the work that goes into supporting young people. I have got to know inspiring people, hear inspiring stories, found new interests, and learned new skills that I can use within teaching, my career, and my personal life.

dofe_testimonial_quoteThe programme has been so much better than I ever expected. I was reluctant to sign up, thinking I'd be too shy, and no-one would listen to what I had to say; but it has been so rewarding to be part of a like-minded community of young people who come from such diverse backgrounds. One highlight was speaking alongside the Children's Commissioner at the Lib Dem party conference. I really felt my voice was being listened to and that I could make an impact on young people's futures.
