This course is for young people aged between 16 and 18 years old who are interested in learning more about zoology and conservation.
Interested in a career involving conservation and zoo keeping? This five-day course offers a unique look at conservation efforts and animal care. Delivered in collaboration with Dartmoor Zoological Society at Slapton Ley Field Centre in Devon and Colchester Zoological Society at Flatford Mill in Suffolk.
Participants will start the week exploring a range of habitats at nearby nature reserves. They’ll also enjoy getting hands-on with vital conservation work.
The second half of the course offers rare behind-the-scenes visits to the zoo itself. There will be expert-led workshops on animal training, handling and zoo management as well as conservation. Participants will see a wide variety of animals. From reptiles to big cats you’ll see a huge variety.
This course is suitable for the residential section of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Always check with your leader before booking.
Cost includes full board accommodation, lunch & hot and cold drinks and in-course transport.
