Oyster Worldwide – Marine conservation and diving in Portugal – Lisbon, Portugal

Join underwater clean-ups off Lisbon to remove ghost gear, plastic and debris while gaining diving qualifications and helping Portugal’s marine ecosystems thrive.

Volunteers join an eco?dive school near Lisbon (in Cascais) to remove fishing gear, plastics, tyres, mobile phones—even mini-fridges—from the reef through daily dives.

You may dive up to 20 metres (typically 12–15m), for 20–50 minutes per dive. Tasks include weighing debris, documenting and recycling collected waste, and liaising with local fishermen to return usable gear.

The program includes SSI Open Water certification (if needed) and speciality diving certifications (Marine Ecology, Fish ID, Advanced Open Water, DEEP) depending on duration. All dive equipment and training are included.

This project is open year round with durations between 1–8 weeks and allows divers of all levels (new or experienced). Participants support community awareness and see tangible marine improvements—volunteers have already removed nearly 3,000kg of waste. Age minimum is 17.
