ISSET – NASA Led Space Mission Residential – London

An inspiring DofE Gold residential where young people work with NASA astronauts to design a real space experiment, build confidence, and develop teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Mission Discovery is a 5 day DofE Gold residential designed to help young people build confidence, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills through an exciting, real-world challenge.

You don’t need to be a science expert to take part. Mission Discovery is for anyone who is curious, creative and willing to have a go. Participants work in small, supportive teams, so no one is ever on their own, and mentors guide them every step of the way.

Based at King’s College London, participants spend 5 inspiring days working alongside 2 NASA astronauts; International Space Station Commander Steve Swanson and Space Shuttle Commander Tony Antonelli, as well as leading professors and scientists.

Together, teams develop and pitch an experiment idea. The winning idea is launched to space. Along the way, young people develop skills they already use every day, such as communication, teamwork and creative thinking, while discovering new ones that build independence and self-belief.

The residential environment encourages responsibility and resilience, with clear structure, supervision and support throughout. Participants leave with new friends from around the world, unforgettable memories, and skills that last a lifetime.
