Oyster Worldwide – Residential – Veterinary internship in South Africa

Help out on a mobile veterinary unit, travelling around a beautiful region in South Africa to treat animals in need. You will work with a variety of animals in a variety of locations, including wildlife in game reserves, dogs and cats in local clinics, farm animals on ranches and horses in vet practices.

What’s it all about?

Veterinary interns become immersed into the life of a mobile vet on this project. Tasks are varied and demand-driven, but examples are:

– wound care
– treating animals in the community
– pregnancy testing
– disease control
– game counts
– darting
– ant-parasite treatment

When?

You can volunteer all year round starting each Monday for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Accommodation and food

You will be living with other veterinary interns in a volunteer house in the seaside town of Chintsa. You should expect to share a room with at least one other person. Three meals per day are provided.

Please note, this is a mobile veterinary project and as such there may be times when you have to stay in other accommodation as you travel.

Who is this suitable for?

This project is especially suited to those aged 18+ who are keen to become vets. It is important that you already have some work experience with animals to join this project, however you do not need to have started your veterinary training.
