The landscape of the Scottish Borders is characterized by rolling hills, interspersed with valleys, and the prominent River Tweed, which flows eastwards through the region. It features extensive moorland and conifer forests. Peebles, the starting point for the expedition, is a historic market town on the river Tweed. Historically, it was a centre for the woolen industry. Today, Peebles and the surrounding countryside are very popular for walking, fishing, and mountain biking.
