Craghoppers

Go prepared and get the most from your adventure. That’s the ethos behind Craghoppers. Inspired by world travel expeditions, Craghoppers has been designing outdoor clothing and protective adventure equipment since 1965.

Who are Craghoppers?

Back in 1965, Craghoppers started like most epic adventures do. A couple of competitive outdoor enthusiasts, a few new ambitious ideas and a bit of ‘I bet you can’t’ banter. We challenged ourselves to design the ultimate clothing for the harshest adventures and then to test it, by wearing it from the beautiful British Peak District to the heights of Everest. Kitting out one of the first British expeditions to Everest influences everything we do today. We’ve since made it our life’s work to travel the world for inspiration, designing the most sustainable innovative outdoor gear for every adventure and environment. It’s a winning formula that’s made us Britain’s leading authority in outdoor and adventure travel clothing.

Why do you work with the DofE?

Craghoppers are proud to have worked alongside The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award since 2010 in encouraging young adults to enjoy the outdoors, we believe that the outdoors is for everyone to explore and enjoy. Alongside conservationist charities and charities such as Walking with the Wounded, we are also committed to making the outdoors accessible to all working alongside Ordnance Survey and #WeTwo which is a foundation to empower underprivileged young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. As well as partnerships and collaborations, Craghoppers also endeavours to always take responsibility and operate sustainably, ethically, and with respect for the impact that we have for the environment and the people that make Craghoppers. We are part of the Ethical Trading Standard which involves making sure that our key workers and suppliers have a safe and happy work environment. The working conditions of our suppliers are a priority for us, and we have strict standards which must be met surrounding the treatment of workers, working hours, remuneration, health and safety, housing and accommodation, and freedom of association (with trade unions or representative committees) before we’ll start working with a new supplier.

What do you think the DofE gives to or does for young people?

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award gives the tools and exposure to push young adults, not just to enjoy the outdoors but to develop essential skills, meet new people and broaden their horizons.

How are you working towards being more sustainable?

We are doing what we can, where we can, to look after our planet. We have recycled 100 million plastic bottles since 2015, made into product and have zero landfill from any waste from our facilities. You can learn more here.
