The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is all about young people stepping outside their comfort zones, taking on challenges that push them further than they thought possible, and forming friendships that last a lifetime.

It’s more than just muddy boots and outdoor adventures – it’s giving back to communities, building essential skills for the future, and developing lifelong self-belief.

These are experiences that young people have always needed and always will.

We don’t know what the future holds, but we do know that today’s teenagers will shape it. By leaving a gift in your Will, you’ll help make sure we can continue to equip young people with the transferable life skills, resilience, teamwork and leadership qualities they’ll need to navigate whatever the future holds, supporting themselves and their communities.

Please reach out to our team if you want to learn more about leaving a gift in your Will. You can contact us by emailing [email protected] or by calling +44 207 798 2880.

The DofE Charity relies on generous support to keep doing what it does best, and we’re committed to raising funds in a way that’s safe, respectful and transparent. Our responsible fundraising policy is designed to underpin this approach.

Your legacy – what is best for you

Supporting young people for generations to come couldn’t be easier. Here’s how to include a gift in your Will:

1. Choose the gift you would like to make

Family and friends come first when planning your Will. It is important to know that your loved ones are secure and looked after. Then, if you feel you could also include the DofE, you might choose to include a cash gift – a sum that feels right for you. Or you could decide to leave a percentage of your estate.

Whatever you decide is right for you, please remember that every gift in every Will can secure and develop our future as a charity, ensuring young people for generations to come can experience the life-changing benefits of a DofE Award.

2. Contact your will writer and ask them to include your gift in your will

Your Will-writer will ask what gift you would like to make, as well as our charity name and our registered charity number:

  • Charity name: The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
  • Registered charity number: 1072490 (England and Wales) and SCO30254 (Scotland)

If you already have a Will, then it may be as simple as a quick addition to your current document. By pledging a gift in your Will today, you will help ensure DofE remains a life-changing opportunity for generations to come.

There is no requirement for you to tell us your intentions, but if you choose to, we would love the opportunity to say a very heartfelt thank you. This is a very personal decision, and we encourage you to do what feels right for you.

Tax benefits

Inheritance tax is complicated, and we cannot give legal advice. Your solicitor or will writer will be able to give you specific legal advice.

If your estate is subject to inheritance tax, it’s likely that there’ll be a tax saving of £400 for every £1,000 you leave us. This can change at any time.

Specific purpose legacies

If you would like your gift used for a specific purpose, please contact us so we can try and fulfil your wish. We cannot predict the most urgent use of future legacy gifts, but we promise to use all gifts wisely.

Three young people with backpacks are hiking up a rocky path in a green, open landscape. They are helping each other by holding hands for support, with one person in a camouflage hoodie smiling at the camera. The other two are focused on climbing, one wearing a black and orange jacket and the other in a cap and black jacket. The background features grassy fields, trees, and a wooden fence.
dofe_testimonial_quoteI was born profoundly deaf in both ears. I felt really happy when I was offered the opportunity to do my DofE because it was something to look forward to and I knew what it could do for my future.
