Pod Volunteer – August Turtle Conservation – 16&17 years – Kefalonia, Greece

Join a Pod Volunteer 1 week trip in August turtle hatching season! Get involved in Turtle and Marine Conservation on a Greek island for your DofE Gold Residential.

You will be part of the Pod Volunteer Under 18 team spending 1 week getting involved in Turtle and Marine conservation in Greece! It’s open to 16 and 17 year olds and you will join a group of up 24 other participants.

August is turtle hatching season so each day will be different but you will help the local team with:

  • Evening beach nest checks – if live hatchlings are found in the nest, you will help release them and make sure they get to the sea safely!
  • Morning turtle nesting beach surveys and nest checks
  • Harbour surveys monitoring adult turtles
  • Snorkel surveys of seagrass meadows
  • Coastal clean-ups

These activities will be accompanied a series of engaging educational presentations about turtles and marine conservation.

Kefalonia is a beautiful island and it’s a really special place explore, with evenings in the busting town of Argostoli and visit the famous caves.

You will be supported by team leaders who will stay with you in a lovely hillside resort with a swimming pool and fantastic sunset views over the sea. Meals are included.

This is a very popular project so we would recommend booking early to secure your place.
