At Mission Discovery, you’ll join new people and take on a space mission. Working in a small team, you’ll develop and pitch a proposal for an experiment in space to an expert panel. One team’s idea will be chosen for development and launch to space.
You’ll be mentored by NASA astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger, NASA leader Sarah Murray and professors from King’s College London. Through interactive sessions, Q&As and team challenges, you’ll hear first-hand stories, ask questions and discover how different strengths help projects succeed.
You don’t need to be a science expert, but some science knowledge is useful. An interest in science, space or problem-solving will help you get more from the experience. Successful teams need creative thinkers, organisers, communicators, presenters and supportive teammates. Mentors will guide you, and everyone will have a valuable role.
As your idea develops, you’ll research, make decisions, solve problems and refine your proposal as a team. You’ll practise explaining your thinking and presenting with confidence.
The residential also gives you the chance to experience university life, become more independent and form new friendships. You’ll leave with stronger communication and leadership skills, greater confidence and memories of what your team achieved together.
Cost includes accommodation, meals and supervision.
