Lee’s DofE helped him stand out from other candidates when applying to graduate placements

Law student, Lee, achieved his Bronze and Gold DofE Awards through his university Student Union DofE society. Aspiring to work in the legal sector, the chance to grow as an individual and wanting to challenge himself fuelled Lee to start his DofE journey. He volunteered in a local charity shop and felt he was positively impacted from his experiences.

“It offered me the chance to give back to the community that welcomed me to live and study. I believe that supporting local charities offers young people the chance to create positive effects.”

Lee’s expedition also taught him important lessons and skills that he can apply in his academic and professional environment. These include learning to be more tolerant and patient as well as working well as a team and understanding the importance of when to be serious – and when to have fun.

Since achieving his Award, Lee successfully applied for a Westminster internship working for an MP. He believes that his DofE helped set him apart from other candidates and he has learnt to recognise and apply the relevant transferrable skills from his DofE programme.

“I believe passionately that the DofE is important to personal development. It helps individuals become more accomplished, employable and ultimately stand out from the crowd in the competitive graduate market.”
