Right now, young people across the UK are facing a mental health crisis.

1 in 5 are struggling with their mental health and those from low-income families are more than twice as likely to experience severe mental health problems. On top of that, they’re dealing with the daily pressures of social media, loneliness, isolation, and an uncertain future.

The DofE charity is part of the solution.

It can help young people build skills, friendships and a greater sense of purpose. Participants report better wellbeing, stronger community connections, and increased confidence – even as national trends go the other way. The DofE works because it gets young people active and engaged in something positive, which research shows helps improve their wellbeing and future opportunities.

But not every young person can afford to do DofE.

This winter, your support can open doors for more young people to access the DofE. We can’t do this without you.

Give today and remove financial barriers

Michelle and Jay’s story

Michelle’s eldest child, Jay used to feel like an outcast. He struggled with his mental health and didn’t know where he fitted in. Thanks to funding, he was able to do DofE – and everything changed. He found confidence, friendship, and a place to be himself. Michelle says DofE gave all her children a safe space to grow, feel accepted, and believe in themselves.

I want my children to always believe in themselves, have confidence and never think that they can’t just go for something. The DofE gave them that chance and I’m so grateful for it, they’ve been able to take part in something that’s changed their lives.

If I didn’t receive funding, I wouldn’t have had the chance to do DofE. It would have been hard to afford it. It’s probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made – DofE is honestly amazing.

Jay has bright teal-colored hair and is dressed in a dark jacket with a backpack featuring a neon yellow strap. The photo appears to be taken during a hike or outdoor adventure.
