Welcome to DofE Wales Employability Week. Below we’re offering insights from business leaders, employers and DofE Award holders on how young people can make themselves stand out in the job market despite the coronavirus pandemic.
It’s a difficult time to be applying for jobs and getting a career started, but we hope that our Employability Week resources are both informative and inspiring, reminding young people to believe in themselves.
On day one we hear from Robert Lloyd Griffiths OBE on why employers seek people with skills developed by the DofE, and Sravya Bathula, Senior Internal Auditor on how the DofE has helped her career.
The theme for day two of Employability Week is resilience, and to talk more about resilience in the workplace we’re delighted to hear from Lynne Sheehy, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at our Gold Associate Supporter Legal & General. We’ll also hear from Keith Maher, Headteacher at Pen y Dre High School on how the DofE has helped build resilience in their pupils.
On day three of our DofE Wales Employability Week we hear from Richard McPhail at Hugh James Law, a top 100 UK Law firm. The theme is teamwork, and as a Gold Award holder Richard has first-hand experience of the DofE Award, while his job requires him to have excellent teamwork and communication skills.
This video also covers aspects of our DofE Wellbeing Report, which you can read in full here.
The theme for Day Four of Employability Week is recruitment tips, focusing on practical advice to improve the chances of getting a job in these difficult times. Applying for jobs can be a daunting experience but remembering the small things can go a long way towards securing the best possible position to get a job. It’s a difficult time, but nothing is impossible.
Here are some helpful resources created by Silver associate supporter ALS People (Interview and CV writing tips) and RMS (Top tips for getting a job).
We also have an insight from our Regional Youth Ambassador Jonathan Jones on his advice for young people applying for their first job.
On the final day of our Employability Week we hear from Nick Blakeney, Managing Director at GE Aviation Wales, and Lucy Price, Gold DofE Award holder and Project Officer for DofE Wales.
