Welcome to the DofE in Northern Ireland

Kate Thompson – Director

Role: Kate has overall responsibility for the management and development of the DofE in Northern Ireland through dedicated staff, Northern Ireland Ambassador Network and DofE Manager Committees, Licensed Organisations and the wider DofE network.

Kate is a Gold Award holder and says doing her DofE changed her life. She is a keen hillwalker, traveller and photographer and a canoe/kayak instructor in her spare time.

Julie McGimpsey – Operations Officer

Role: Julie is responsible for supporting the delivery of the DofE programme, monitoring and enhancing the quality of delivery, supporting Licensed Organisations and training delivery. Julie is responsible for developing and growing the operation of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award/Joint Award Initiative programme throughout Northern Ireland.

James McClements – Office Manager

Role: James is responsible for managing the Office and the Administration Team, Northern Ireland Gold Award Presentations and events, support for Kate, finance and Assessor accreditation, along with all administrative processes in the Office.  James is a Bronze, Silver and Gold Award holder and has been involved with DofE through the Boys’ Brigade over 15 years  and is an Expedition Supervisor, Accredited Assessor and Award Verifier.

Karen Lawther – Centre Support Officer

Role: Karen is responsible for supporting Licensed Organisations and centres with the delivery of DofE/JAI, Expedition support for Leaders, delivery of Training, eDofE and administration.  Karen has been involved with DofE as a volunteer for over 20 years and is an Expedition Supervisor, Accredited Assessor and Award Verifier.

Karen is a keen fitness enthusiast who has recently returned to running and has completed a challenge to complete all 24 Park Runs in Northern Ireland.

Keith Fleming – Centre Support Officer

Role: Keith is responsible for supporting Licensed Organisations and centres with the delivery of DofE/JAI, Expedition support for Leaders, delivery of Training, eDofE and administration.  Keith has been involved with DofE as a volunteer for almost 25 years and is an Expedition Supervisor, Accredited Assessor and Award Verifier.

Keith is a keen hillwalker and enjoys listening to music in his spare time.

Helen Ward – Administrative Assistant (maternity leave)

Role: Helen is responsible for incoming telephone and website enquiries, administration including training courses and to support the other roles, Helen is also an Award Verifier.

Zoe Taylor – Administrative Assistant (maternity cover)

Role: Zoe is responsible for incoming telephone and website enquiries, administration including training courses and to support the other roles, Zoe is also an Award Verifier.  Zoe is a Bronze, Silver and Gold Award holder, and volunteers with the RAF Air Cadets.

Eva Henderson – Administrative Assistant 

Role:  Eva is responsible for incoming telephone and website enquiries, administration including training courses and to support the other roles.  Eva is a Bronze Award Holder and volunteers at Rosie’s Trust where she help look after dogs for the elderly.

Peter Gregg – Expedition Network Co-ordinator

Role:  Peter is responsible for the administration of Expedition Notifications for the NI Wild Country Areas.  He joined the DofE in May 2018.
